Justices of the Peace and Constable's Training Conference Wraps Up With a "Who Dat" Celebration

The 2010 Justice of the Peace and Constable’s Training Conference wrapped up its nearly week long training on Friday, February 26 in Marksville. Nearly 800 JP’s and Constables from around Louisiana attended the seminar at the Paragon Resort.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of a #9 New Orleans Saints jersey to Attorney General Buddy Caldwell on behalf of the Justice of the Peace and Constables Association. Former Association President, Connie Moore presented the jersey, with “Caldwell” emblazoned on the back, as a token of appreciation for the Attorney General’s efforts on behalf of the citizens of Louisiana and the “Who Dat” nation.

Attorney General Caldwell contacted the NFL the week before the Superbowl, prior to a request by the Governor’s office, after finding out about the League’s cease and desist letters sent to retailers who were selling “Who Dat” t-shirts and merchandise. After a positive conference call with the Attorney General and NFL officials, the League agreed with Caldwell when he said “Who Dat” and the fleur-de-lis are public domain.

“The fleur-de-lis has been on the St. Louis Cathedral for 250 years, long before the NFL came into existence,” proclaimed Caldwell. “This is part of Louisiana culture as is “Who Dat” which I remember saying when I played ball at Tulane 40 years ago.”
